Yesterday our school was filled with excitement as we celebrated World Book Day together. From the moment the doors opened in the morning, the corridors were buzzing with colourful costumes, favourite characters and a shared love of reading. Across the school, classes took part in a wide range of engaging reading activities. One of the highlights was a series of Traitors-style reading challenges, where children worked together to solve clues, discuss texts and think carefully about the stories they were exploring. These activities brought a sense of mystery and teamwork to reading and children loved the chance to put their detective skills to the test. KS2 classes also took part in a thoughtful book study of The Dark. Through discussion, writing and creative responses, children explored the themes and ideas in the story, sharing their thoughts about the character and how the book made them feel. In Key Stage 1, the morning was full of creativity and imagination. Children enjoyed a range of activities based on well-loved stories such as Paddington, Oi Dog and Goldilocks. From storytelling and role play to crafts and writing, the classrooms were alive with enthusiasm as children brought their favourite books to life. Later in the day, the whole school came together for shared reading activities, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy books together and celebrate the joy of stories. It was wonderful to see children of all ages engaged in reading and sharing their love of books. A special mention must go to everyone’s fantastic costumes. From classic characters to modern favourites, children and staff alike looked amazing and truly embraced the spirit of World Book Day. Overall, it was a brilliant day filled with reading, creativity and fun - a wonderful reminder of how much joy books can bring to our school community.
